Marina Zurkow: Parting Worlds
Exhibition Graphics + Book Design
For the Marina Zurkow: Parting Worlds exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, I used the introductory hallway to help guests find the show.
On the first wall that you see, I created playful wayfinding out of Marina Zurkow’s paper airplane illustration. The arrangement of the airplanes was inspired by the gusts of wind in her piece, Mesocosm.
Her illustrations follow you as you get further down the hallway, inspired by the world-building in her work.
I also used illustrations to literally part the title, Parting Worlds, and her name, as well. And on the panel above the gallery entrance, the illustrations animate via projection, as a nod to her digital practice.
I also worked with Marina Zurkow on a digital glossary of her illustrations, accessible via the terrace where her work, The River is a Circle, was on display. Outside of the Whitney, she and I worked together to build the glossary out into a physical book (documentation of the book coming soon!)
